Smokin' Up Mimosas: A Smoky Citrus Twist on Tradition

Welcome back to Smokin' Whiskey, where we're always pushing the boundaries of what smoke can add to our favorite drinks. Today, we're turning up the heat with a smoky citrus twist on a classic: the Mimosa!

This recipe combines the refreshing effervescence of champagne with the smoky richness of grilled oranges, creating a complex and intriguing flavor profile that's sure to impress your guests.

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 whole oranges

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • Pure maple syrup

  • Champagne

Preparation:

  1. Get your grill smokin' hot! Preheat your grill to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Prepare the oranges:

    • Cut 3 whole oranges in half and slice 1 orange into thin slices.

    • Pour a small amount of maple syrup into a bowl and brush it onto each orange half and slice.

    • Lightly sprinkle the sugar on each orange, coating the entire inner surface.

  1. Let the magic happen: Place the oranges face down on the grill and cook for 15-20 minutes. Remember to turn them every 5 minutes or so to ensure even charring.

  2. Juicing time: Let the oranges cool slightly, then juice them into a bowl through a strainer. This removes any unwanted pulp.

  3. Mix and mingle: Pour your smoky orange juice into your favorite champagne flutes.

  4. Garnish for glory: Add a few orange slices for a touch of elegance and a delightful smoky citrus aroma.

  5. Cheers! Raise a glass and savor the unique smoky citrus twist on this classic drink.

Tips:

  • For a deeper smoky flavor, use a smoker box filled with wood chips like applewood or cherrywood.

  • Don't overcook the oranges! You want them to be nicely caramelized but not mushy.

  • Experiment with different types of champagne to find your perfect pairing.

  • Add a dash of bitters for an extra layer of complexity.

This smoky citrus Mimosa is the perfect way to add a touch of excitement to your next brunch or gathering. It's sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it!

So, fire up your grill and get smokin'! And don't forget to share your photos and feedback in the comments below. Cheers!
